Job Posting - Policy and Development Assistant




The Algoma Community Legal Clinic Inc. (ACLC) is a community based legal clinic that provides legal services to low income individuals/families in the District of Algoma.  ACLC is funded by Legal Aid Ontario, governed by a Board of Directors drawn from the community, and located at the hub of the Great Lakes, on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabek and Métis People.

 

The ACLC is seeking a Policy and Development Assistant commencing April 1, 2024 for a 1 year period.  Funding and project activities approved by the (NOHFC) Northern Ontario Heritage Foundation Corporation. 

 

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Assistant, the Policy and Development Intern will assist Board and Administrative Staff in: 

·       reviewing identified policies and procedures

·       ensuring policies and bylaws meet legislative compliance

·       researching ‘best practices’ for such policies and/or policy gaps in other legal clinics and/or legal clinic associations

·       drafting new policies and/or amendments to current policies for review by appropriate staff and the Board of Directors

·       assist in the research of funding opportunities and draft grant applications

·       develop orientation manuals for board and staff

 

Qualifications and Experience

•        Strong written and verbal communication skills;

•        Policy analysis and research skills

•        Grant-writing experience

•        Knowledge of poverty-related issues, particularly housing and income assistance

•        Knowledge and experience with non-profits, and their legal requirements

•        Ability to organize and work independently and as a team player

•        Familiarity with computer word processing and presentation applications.  Videoconferencing experience an asset (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams)

•        Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office

·       Fields of Study: Law and Politics, Community Development, Business Administration, or related field

 

Hourly wage is $21.40/hour, 35 hours per week.  Will include a hybrid of in-office and remote work.
